- The drone I use for client shoots is a DJI Mini 4 Pro. This is a sub 250 gram drone so can be flown in urban environments, close to buildings. Legally, the drone must remain in visual line of sight with a maximum allowable altitude of 400 ft (120 metres). The drone cannot be flown over crowds.

- As standard, video is recorded at 4k-30fps but the original footage could be recorded at a lower quality of 1080p (still HD) if requested. The original 4k footage can also be down-graded to 1080p or 720p during processing (resulting in smaller file sizes). A version of the same footage in both 4k and 1080p can be provided at no additional charge if requested.
- Photos can be provided at either 12mp or 48mp with a maximum image size of 8064 x 6048. As standard these are in JPG format but can be provided in RAW (DNG) format if requested in advance.

- The drone cannot be flown over crowds. The maximum allowable altitude is 400ft (120 metres) and it must remain in visual line of sight.
- The weather can severely impact drone operations – It cannot be used in the rain or fog. Both of these conditions would severely affect the quality of the images anyway.
- Wind speeds – The drone cannot operate properly if wind speeds (or gusts) are forecast to be over approximately 30 mph.
- No fly zones. There are a number of restricted air space zones and if a location falls within one then a drone flight is not permitted. Once I know a clients location, I can advise up-front whether or not a drone flight is possible.
- The red zones are no-fly zones. The yellow zones are ‘exercise caution’ zones, or temporary no-fly zones which can change depending on what activities are taking place. You may be in a yellow zone but flight may only be restricted between certain dates, or not actually restricted at all. Additionally, there may be ground hazards that restrict flights.

- Both of my drones are registered with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and I hold a CAA Flyer ID. I have commercial drone insurance compliant with EC 785/2004 which includes public liability cover up to £1m.
About Me....
My Story
- I’m 60 years old (as of August 2023) and retired. I spent my working life as a company Accountant in various industries until I retired in 2020. Upon retirement I purchased my first drone – an original DJI Mavic Mini – having become interested in drones when the company I worked for purchased a DJI drone for aerial photography purposes. I’ve always had an interest in flight and photography having flown Motor Gliders in my youth! The drone struck me as a way of being able to achieve aerial pictures without breaking the bank, and would make an interesting retirement hobby – alongside finally having more time to ride my motorcycles.
- I still have my original DJI Mavic Mini, but in 2023 I also purchased a DJI Mini 4 Pro which is a significant upgrade on the original Mini and opens up far more possibilities when it comes to both the flying and photography aspects, as it features a lot more automated flying modes, a significantly upgraded camera and sophisticated collision avoidance sensors allowing me to fly in more environments than before.
- I don’t really view NRH Drone Services as a business, I still treat it as more of a hobby, but with the DJI Mini 4 Pro I realised that I’m able to achieve far higher quality footage in terms of both the image quality and flying locations.
- Flying the drones and capturing pictures and video is something that I very much enjoy doing so whether I’m flying for my own personal use or working for a client, I’m striving to achieve the best quality footage.
